Invisalign® FAQ’s

What is Invisalign®?

Nearly invisible aligners are worn to straighten your teeth.  Series of custom ‘made for you’ clear aligners are changed every two weeks and are fully removable and comfortable to wear.  Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being changed for the next in the series, slowly moving teeth to their projected final position.

Using advanced 3D computer-imaging technology Dr Panesar would plan your treatment.  This computerised technology will allow you to view how your teeth will move and see how your teeth will look once treatment is completed.  Showing you what your perfect smile would look like!

How often should I wear my Aligners?

Invisalign® only works while you wear the aligners. We recommend they are worn full time day and night unless you’re eating, drinking, brushing or flossing your teeth.

How often do I see my orthodontist when wearing Invisalign®?

Dr Panesar normally reviews you at Birmingham Orthodontics at approximately four to six week intervals. The appointment schedule will vary at different time points and Dr Panesar will provide you with further details once treatment has started.

Will aligners affect my speech?

Majority of patients say that their speech was not affected. However, as with traditional orthodontic appliances, there is an initial adjustment period associated with having something new in the mouth.

What is the minimum age to have Invisalign®?

Invisalign® can be used to treat of adults and adolescents who want straight teeth. We recommend that you book an appointment with Dr Panesar to see if Invisalign® is suitable to give you straight teeth in Birmingham.

Is Invisalign® Treatment painful?

Some patients experience minor discomfort for a few days, when each new aligner is worn. This discomfort is a sign that the aligners are working and moving your teeth gently to achieve straight teeth. This discomfort typically goes away in a couple of days.

The aligner can rub the gum occasionally. This usually resolves with warm water salt mouth rinses up to 4 times a day. You may find orthodontic wax is helpful. If the rubbing does not resolve contact the team at Birmingham Orthodontics.

How do I eat with the aligners in my mouth?

You don’t! Aligner are easy to remove for eating and drinking. We would only recommend plain water at room temperature should be drunk when wearing the aligners. You should brush and floss your teeth after each meal before putting your aligners back in, this would ensure you maintain your oral hygiene.

How do I clean my aligners?

You can clean your aligner by brushing them and rinsing them in lukewarm water or by using Retainer Bright tablets a couple of times a week.

Also, make sure you brush and if possible floss your teeth after you have eaten and before you re-seat the aligners.  We also recommend a daily fluoride mouth wash. This will ensure you are maintaining your oral hygiene.
