Snoring has become a major social problem for individuals and partners. There may be a very simple dental solution to this problem. Dr Panesar has an interest in treating patients with Snoring and Sleep apnoea and presented a poster at the British Orthodontic Conference of 40 consecutively treated patients of which 80% reported an improvement with their Snoring. As a Consultant Orthodontist he works closely with and receives referrals from other specialists including Respiratory/Sleep Physicians, ENT and Maxillo-Facial surgeons, General Medical Practitioners and General Dental Practitioners. Treatment of sleep apnoea is best conducted in conjunction with  the larger multidisciplinary team.

Snoring occurs when the soft tissues (such as tongue and soft palate) of the upper airways collapse against the back of the throat, causing vibration as air passes through them when you breathe.

Snoring can also be a part of a more serious condition called obstructive sleep apnoea. This is a common sleep disorder occurring when tissues in the upper airways come too close to each other during sleep, temporarily blocking the inflow of air. They are then awakened momentarily, breath and then fall asleep again. This broken sleep pattern can lead to people feeling tired during the day, really due to lack of sleep. In addition sleep apnoea has been associated with High blood pressure, strokes and even heart failure can also be symptoms of snoring.

Once you have been diagnosed with simple snoring, Dr Panesar can make you a customized special device which is fitted to your mouth and pushes the bottom jaw forward moving the soft tissues away from the throat attempting to eliminate the snoring.

If you would like to discuss these problems we will be delighted to assist and set the road to elimination of snoring and sleep apnoea in motion.
